November 2-4 events offer free blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure screenings plus information on diabetes care.

Diabetes Self-Management Tips, Free Health Screenings at Nearly 1,200 Rite Aid ClinicsOct 26, 2010 This press release is an announcement submitted by Rite Aid, and was not written by Diabetes Health.

Nearly 1,200 Rite Aid stores nationwide will host Diabetes Solutions Days on Nov. 2, 3 or 4 offering free health screenings and self-management solutions to patients living with diabetes, care-givers and those concerned about diabetes. Visitors also can get vaccinated against flu and/or pneumonia for $24.99 or $50 respectively, although many insurance plans including Medicare cover the cost. Vaccinations are especially important for diabetes patients because flu and pneumonia combine for the deaths of 10,000 to 30,000 diabetes patients annually, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The free events on Nov. 2, 3 or 4, depending on location, are listed online by zip code at?www.riteaid.com. They run from 2 to 6 p.m., do not require an appointment and are part of Rite Aid's year-round focus to help diabetes patients take the best care of themselves. Free activities at the clinics include cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, Body Mass Index (BMI) readings, personal pharmacist consultations, information and training on how to use glucose meters, coupons for and samples of the latest at-home diabetes care products, and a raffle at each location for a $50 Rite Aid gift card.

A free 20-page?Diabetes Care guide?developed with the American Diabetes Association is available now in all Rite Aid stores and online at www.riteaid.com/diabetes. It identifies the risk factors for diabetes and includes important information on diabetes management through diet and medications as well as an annual check list for checkups. The guide also addresses gestational and type 2 diabetes, which can be partially controlled through proper diet and exercise. Patient management tools in the guide include journals to record blood glucose, food and medications.

Rite Aid is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains with more than 4,700 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
