Activity roundup. Australia, Ireland and the Big Blue TestNov 6, 2010 This press release is an announcement submitted by WorldDiabetesDay.org, and was not written by Diabetes Health.

With just a few days left to 14 November, we imagine that a lot of you are making those final touches to your World Diabetes Day celebrations or have already started your awareness activities. Here's a further look at what will be taking place around the world to mark the day:

- In Australia, Diabetes Australia has asked all their members to nominate a health professional who has helped them to take control of their diabetes; an art competition has been launched for members aged 5-12 years to design a postcard incorporating the blue circle symbol; 60 diabetes support groups around the country will be conducting a walk in their community; and once again several cities have agreed to light monuments in blue for diabetes awareness.

- In Ireland, the Diabetes Federation of Ireland will be holding their Diabetes Health Awareness Exhibition which will feature a variety of attractions, including free diabetes screening, cholesterol, BMI and HbA1c testing, foot and eye checks, education workshops for people with diabetes, and fun activities for children and their families. Over 2,000 attendees are expected on 14 November.

- In the USA, the Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF), a World Diabetes Day Champion, has launched its Big Blue Test to promote the benefits of exercise for people with diabetes by inviting them to test their blood sugar on 14 November, do 14 minutes of physical activity, test again and share their results online. For 2010, a promotional video has been produced to raise funds for the International Diabetes Federation's Life for a Child Programme and Insulin for Life, two global initiatives that provide life-saving diabetes medication and supplies to children in developing countries. DHF is aiming for a minimum of 100,000 views of the video. Visit http://bigbluetest.org to watch the video and participate in the Big Blue Test.
